Ek leer knip! / I’m learning to cut!
To be able to cut with scissors, some hand skills are needed, which is the ability to use the thumb, index finger and middle finger separate from the little finger and ring finger. This can be considered challenging for a young child.
Learning to cut is important because the opening and closing movement of a pair of scissors helps your child to develop the small muscles in his/her hand, also known as fine motor skills, which in turn help them to write.
Another skill that is developed through cutting is bilateral coordination.Bilateral coordination is the ability to use both sides of the body in a controlled and organised manner. This is important for our movement and action throughout every day, which includes: walking, cutting, catching balls and playing!
It is an excellent resource for parents, teachers, and therapists who want to support early learning and perceptual development in a meaningful, hands-on way.
Perfect for children aged 4–10, this book offers fun, colourful pages that support early learning.
Available as a bilingual document Afrikaans/English).
